The Cotswold Landscaping Company is owned and managed by Rupert Williams-Ellis, who is a professionally qualified civil engineer with more than 25 years experience of working on design, construction and management of land and water projects all around the world.
Since 2000, Rupert has followed his passion for landscaping, garden design and building restoration and established his landscaping business after moving to Blockley in 2006. He now manages the business from his home office at Snugborough Mill in Blockley, a project that itself involved extensive planning, design and construction activities related to the garden, water and buildings. The project was selected in 2013 by Cotswold District Council as a Finalist in the Western Regional LABC Building Awards for Best Domestic Extension or Alteration (awarded for building excellence in the delivery of outstanding construction and workmanship).
Rupert has experience in designing a wide variety of garden and landscape schemes, often using his engineering background to take account of ground and water problems. He will carry out surveys, prepare conceptual and detailed designs for gardens and work with clients to help them realise their vision and ambitions for their garden. This may also include preparation of design drawings for the building related aspects of the project. In this respect, he has a particular interest and experience in planning the linking of internal living areas in the house with outdoor garden spaces for modern day living. This may involve alterations to the house layout in order to improve access or views to the garden, redefining terrace areas for entertaining, or changes to driveways and parking arrangements.
To date, he has been involved in over 50 gardens in the Blockley area, both small and large, as well as working on other projects in the surrounding Cotswold area.
Rupert often works closely with his brother Nick, who has a well established garden design business, also based in Blockley (nickwilliamsellis.co.uk). For construction activities, Rupert also frequently uses the services of a local contractor, Dan Groves Contracting Ltd (dangrovescontracting.co.uk). Dan established this company after working for a number of years together with Rupert and The Cotswold Landscaping Company on construction of various garden projects. Dan and his team continue to offer a competitive, high quality standard of construction, with great attention to detail.
Nick has run a successful garden design business for over 25 years. Initially based in Dorset, he moved his business to Blockley in 2009. Nick designed the Jurassic Coast Garden, which won a Silver Medal at Chelsea in 2006 and was runner-up in the BBC’s Peoples Choice. In 2008 he designed the two ‘Edible Playground Gardens’ for Dorset Cereals, which won Gold Medal and ‘Best Courtyard Garden’ at Chelsea and Gold medal and the Tudor Rose Award for the ‘Best Garden in Show’ at Hampton Court. He has worked on hundreds of gardens, all over the country, with projects ranging from small gardens to large country estates. He has particular expertise in the design and planting side of gardens, with a passion and wide knowledge of trees.
